Stalker romance is one of the most controversial — and most popular — dark romance tropes. The hero has been watching the heroine, often for months or years, before making his presence known. He knows her habits, her fears, her desires. In dark romance, the stalker isn't portrayed as a cautionary tale but as the ultimate form of obsessive devotion. These heroes are possessive, protective, and utterly convinced that the heroine belongs to them. The tension comes from the power imbalance and the slow realization that his 'love' might be the most dangerous thing she's ever encountered.
